Two federal laws, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, provide protection for public school students with disabilities. Each law has specific eligibility requirements and guidelines for services.

In addition you can also contact your local HTC social worker for assistance. In Tucson you can contact Laurel Pennick at the AZHTC. She is available to attend IEP visits with you and your school administrators. It is also a good idea to have a nurse from the HTC visit with school teachers, nurses and administrators to give them a brief Hemophilia 101 training so they can become more comfortable with your child and his/her needs and work with your family on a more personalized care plan.
